Part Time Finance Director Consultancy in London & Online

Get the help your business needs to grow and succeed.

My Expertise & Commitment

I am an ACA trained, fully qualified chartered accountant with 25+ years of experience at board level as a Finance Director, supporting CEOs on their journey to growing their business and ultimately selling it. My mission is simple: to enable SME owners to achieve their business ambitions. I am passionate about this, and it is what gives me immense job satisfaction.

I have been involved with businesses from start-up, through the growth phase, right up to the exit stage when the owner chooses to sell their business. As a Finance Director I have had varying degrees of involvement within the businesses with which I have worked, from a very hands-on role in a start-up to a more strategic role in a larger organisation overseeing multiple businesses. I have the years of experience to enable me to help your business, regardless of its size.

The Role of Business Owners & CEOs

A business owner and its CEO are the most important people in any company. They provide the vision and establish the long-term goals of a business that will hopefully lead it to its success. At a certain point in their business’ evolution, many such people find it helpful to have an experienced and trained finance person to work with them to help make key operational decisions. But most SMEs don’t need full-time finance support, and many don’t have the budget for it anyway.

Hiring a full-time Finance Director or CFO is a big decision. They are expensive and this is the biggest barrier to a business owner accessing senior financial support. There is a solution to this. Hiring an experienced part-time Finance Director allows you to acquire the same support but on your own terms in a way that is flexible in the level of support that you would like and allows you to gain the benefit of high-level experience without having to make the expensive long-term commitment of hiring someone.

How I can help

The areas in which I can assist you as a part-time Finance Director are many and varied but here is a short (non-exhaustive) list of common areas of support:

Profitability

It goes without saying that a business can only succeed in the long term if it is profitable.

Understanding the key drivers of the business that improve its profitability is essential and is the basis of any finance director’s role. I will help you focus on the key areas that will make your business more successful and improve its profitability.

Raising Funds

Sometimes a business owner needs to raise funds for an investment opportunity. For example, the acquisition of another business.

Raising funds is an area in which I have extensive experience and can help you achieve your goal.

Management Information

To operate effectively, businesses require timely, accurate and detailed management information (monthly profit statements, balance sheets, cash flows etc).

This is essential to enable the close monitoring of business performance and allows issues to be identified and rectified before they become a problem.

Cash Flow Management

The mistake some businesses make is to assume that if they are profitable, they will always have the cash available to meet their financial needs. This is not the case and cash flow is one of the primary reasons for business failure.

Having a clear and accurate Cash Flow Forecast is vital, as is ensuring that the underlying drivers (e.g. timely client invoicing processes, efficient debt collection, optimised supplier payment terms, good banking relationships and overdraft facilities) are working efficiently for you.

Exit Planning

A business owner may be thinking of selling their business. A successful sale requires extensive exit planning and preparation before the activation of a sale process. It is essential to ensure that the business and its books and records are in the best possible state before a potential buyer gets their hands on them.

Otherwise, the sale price is negatively impacted. Exit planning is an area in which I have extensive experience.
